Luke Smith is an emerging lighting designer and programmer based in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in theatre and dance productions. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Production and Design) with a specialization in Lighting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), having previously completed an Advanced Diploma and Diploma in 2024 and 2023, respectively.
Throughout his time at WAAPA, Luke has contributed to numerous performances across theatre, musical theatre, dance, and performance-making. His recent work includes serving as the Lighting Designer for Katzenmusik at WAAPA's Enright Studio.
Proficient in various lighting fixtures and control systems, Luke has experience with ETC Eos, GrandMA2, and Vista 2 & 3. He utilises software such as Vectorworks Spotlight for creating detailed lighting plots and Lightwright 6 for paperwork. Additionally, he has experience operating sound consoles, training in wired and wireless microphones, and holds a Level 3 Certification in Dante.
Luke's technical skills extend to developing custom lighting instruments compatible with any lighting console supporting Art-Net or sACN, allowing for tailored lighting solutions that meet specific production requirements and budgets.
