Luke Smith is a emerging lighting designer and programmer based in Perth, Western Australia who works primarily in theatre and dance. 
Luke is currently studying a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Production and Design) with a specialisation in Lighting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) after having completed an Advanced Diploma and Diploma in 2024 and 2023 respectively. Throughout his time at WAAPA, he has worked on a number of performances spanning theatre, musical theatre, dance and performance making with his most recent being Katzenmusik for which he was the Lighting Designer,
Luke has primarily been involved with providing lighting design and programming services for productions at Willetton Senior High School. His most recent designs include the Belmont City College production of Treading Water and Willetton Senior High School productions of Puffs, Red Riding Hood and The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe directed by Stefan Brand.
Luke has experience with a range of lighting fixtures and control systems including ETC Eos, GrandMA2 and Vista 2 & 3. He also has experience using software such as Vectorworks Spotlight for the creation of detailed lighting plots and paperwork software such as Lightwright 6. Luke also has experience with the operation of sound consoles and training in wired and wireless microphones along with holding a Level 3 Certification in Dante. Luke has experience in the development of custom lighting instruments that can be used with any lighting console supporting Art-Net or sACN and can easily develop lights specifically for props and scenery in order to fit into production requirements and budgets.
